Stem Issue? (Purple Haze)

Hey growers, this is my second grow and I’m having a little trouble. I noticed the plant was leaning over to the side and pulled back some of the leaves to check the stem. The stem looks a lot different than my first grow. It feels pretty frail and has a much darker color (almost black) where the stem meets the coco pod. I’m worried the stem won’t be able to support additional growth when the plant starts getting bigger. I took a closeup pic of the stem as well as the plant overall and the roots. I finally got a thermometer in there and noticed the temps have been getting too warm (it was 84 degrees when I checked but I saw the max got up to 87.8 degrees!). I put a small block of ice in the Grobo to cool it down for now but is this salvageable or am I going to need to start a new grow. I’m on day 48 overall and have extended the late vegetative stage for 2 weeks due to a FIM attempt and its lack of growth.

Your stem is dampening off :frowning:
All you can do at this point is lift the coco pod up, dry the top of it out with some paper towels by lightly pushing on it, and hope for the best…

Yup, dampening off, due to color of the roots and the amount of damage received (more than 50% of stalk) i would terminate grow and start a new one. Pay more attention to the pod moisture during the first two weeks of grow, once the plant has 2 leaves, raise the pod.

Thank you for all of this information! I’ve raised the pod up and supported the stem with some toothpicks. I’ve also opened some windows and tried to route the air to the back of the Grobo to get the temps down. One last thing I’m going to do is add a little fan to dry the coco pod some more.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I’m going to try. Appreciate the help

I’m not ready to let her go yet :sob: I took a closer look at the roots and I think the only reason the top part is brown is from the cocopod. The bottom half of the roots are still white which is giving me a little hope. I propped up the pod and stabilized the stem with some toothpicks as a Hail Mary. I really hope she pulls through!

Stings a little I Know (see my old posts :sob:!!) but we ALL learn as we go & move on
Keep kickin dude & good luck :fist_right:

She likely can pull through but amount of time required now for a harvest vs amount is not worth it. Ive had several survive and i feel you lose 30 to 50 percent of your harvest from it stunting the plant so hard. But i am happy to see you want to see it through as thats always important.

I kinda figured that would be the case. If I could squeeze close to an oz out of her I would ecstatic!!! I’ll send some updates along the way, good or bad.

Really appreciate that man. This is definitely a learning experience!

@J-Mac I Would Let Her Fight Through… Maybe Give Her A Lil Haircut All Along The Bottom For Airflow And To Lighten Her Load… But She’ll Be Good!!

Yes, that’s the plan! I trimmed off a few of the dead leaves at the bottom and have got a fan going to dry out the pod and stem. Fingers crossed she pulls through
