For those using their own nutes I read to mix nutes properly and pH water before filling. Do you add your own cal mag before filling as well? Or do you still keep bottle 5 connected and let grobo dose it? Also since you pH before filling. Does that mean you also disconnect bottles 1 & 2 and just check pH daily? Or keep them connected and let grobo dose as needed? Any feedback back would be greatly appreciated.

I’d say it depends on what you want to do. You can run in whichever combination you want to, but I’d stick with grobo managing pH.
Cal-Mag:
- If you are adding your own cal-mag then you don’t need #5.
- If you don’t want to use your own cal-mag you can use bottle #5 for that but the grobo won’t automatically dose it if the starting ppm of the water is too high (like from your own nutrients already being in it); so you’d have to add it to your water before filling.
pH:
- You can pH the water yourself before filling, this helps a lot to reduce on grobo dosing of pH up/down on initial fill even if you’re not using your own nutrients.
- If you don’t let the grobo manage pH then you will have to manually check and adjust it multiple times per day to compensate for any drift. Even if using pH perfect (or similar auto-balancing) nutrients this needs to be checked and sometimes compensated for.

Also keep in mind that the Grobo automated portion is not built to withstand other nutrients and can cause equipment failure like clogged lines, sensor gunk, unstable readings.
The other thing is that it could result in a problem with coverage if you purchased a warranty.

Hi B,
Thank you I appreciate the feedback. I was just holding off until my year warranty is up in. Feb. 2021. I didn’t get the extended warranty. Just trying to find a lower cost solution for keeping Grobo running. Being on a fixed income is making it hard to keep growing.

I’m pacing myself, I grobo after a tent grow because electricity gets high during tent grows so I offset it by using the grobo for a grow to clone so I can cut some tent time!
Maybe one day Grobo can sell nutrients in bulk to get the price down.

When things get really tight I use the Affirm app or sezzle to buy everything I need and then make payments.

P.s. Affirm is more flexible on payback dates and you won’t have to make your first payment until the following month unless you go over the amount you qualify for, then they let you put up the difference first before starting the loan.

If you’re using something like Rhino Guard (silicon) add it first and let it sit for a minimum of 1 hour, I let mine sit 90 minutes. You’ll want to let it sit for a little bit after adding cal-mag.
