How long into the grow before I need to make sure I stop topping / FIMing?

You can top and FIM as much as you’d like from node 5 through the first two weeks of flower. After that you are just reducing the bud sites unnecessarily. For your 1st grow, you may want to just let your plant grow naturally. That way you get to know your strain a bit better before deciding how best to increase your yield.
