How much maintenance will Grobo require?

The Grobo unit will require very little maintenance; all you have to do is top off the water and replace the nutrients when the unit sends you a notification, as well as do a full system flush of the unit after every 3 grow cycles. This flush mode is fully automated and only requires you to pour a solution into the water reservoir as well as place the exterior hose in a bucket or sink.

Will Grobo be difficult to set up or learn how to use?

Grobo is a very simple device; simply plug the unit in, find the unit via our smartphone or web based app, and hit connect. On top of that, if you ever get lost, we’ll make sure you know what you’re doing every step of the way.

How many people can control a Grobo?

As many people as you give access to the Grobo device. An administrator account will be able to give/revoke access to anyone else that also has a free Grobo account.

Where are Grobo systems going to be manufactured?

Grobo is assembled entirely in Canada, and has most of its components manufactured in Canada. Some portions of the Grobo unit is being manufactured in China.

How do I clean my Grobo?

The Grobo unit has a set of instructions available to you on how to clean the unit right when you get the unit. You are able to remove the growing basket from the unit to clean the inner reservoir. Every 3 grows we suggest running a cleaning solution through the unit as a way to flush out any buildup of nutrients, minerals, or growth media that may occur.

What materials is Grobo made of?

Grobo is made of a variety of materials including, but not limited to, aluminum, plastics, and steel.

Is Grobo smell proof?

Yes it is. We use an activated carbon filter to make sure that whatever you are growing in your unit does not leak into your place of residence.

Grobo utilizes a hydroponics based system, called “Ebb and Flow”, to water your plants. It takes in the fresh water you provide to it, mixes it with the necessary nutrient supplements, and then feeds it to your plants at the correct time.

Phone App

Can I access the app if I don’t have a phone?

Yes, we have a dedicated web app that you can access from any internet browser.

What operating systems is the app for?

The system will launch natively for iOS based phones, but will be compatible with android in the near future. Our web based app scales to any smartphone so you should be able to control your unit no matter what device you use.

Can I disable push notifications?

Yes you can. In user settings you are capable of disabling a select number of notifications, or all of them altogether, though it is not recommended as your unit will try and give you the information that is only relevant to you such as when it needs watering, and nutrient refills.

Plants and Growing

How long does it take to grow?/How long will I have to wait before my first harvest?

If you are starting from seed, it takes a couple weeks for germination and seedling growth, before you enter the vegetative stage. This stage often runs 4 weeks before the unit automatically signals the plant that it’s time to flower. 7-9 weeks of flowering and you are at the end of your 1st grow cycle, and can harvest your reward. If you are able to start from a cutting, you can switch to the flowering stage much earlier, possibly cutting your grow cycle down to 8-10 weeks.

What kind of growing medium does the Grobo use?

Grobo uses something called Coco Coir which is an inert growth media made up of Coconut Husk.

Where can I buy seeds?

We are working to partner with several high quality seed companies that will ship directly to you. Until those partnerships are in place, there are many companies that can be found online that will ship internationally. Know your local laws.

What kind of water should I use?

Our system and nutrients are optimized for distilled or reverse osmosis water. These types of water do not contain any salts or minerals, allowing us to create the perfect recipe for your plant. Tap water can also be used and our system will know and adjust your nutrient solution automatically.

What kind of soil should I use?

The occurring costs are the nutrients and the energy. The nutrients will add about $15/month and the energy will add about $5/month to your bill.

How often do I have to water it?

It depends on the stage of life that the plant is currently going through; for younger stages you may only need to fill up the water reservoir every couple of weeks. When the plant gets bigger it gets much thirstier and requires more water. In the worst case situation you may have to top up the water reservoir every 2 days.

What is my rate of success of growing in a Grobo?

We have created an ideal growing environment for you. By automating many of the tasks relating to success and providing strain specific recipes, your worries are over.

Can I reuse my soil after a harvest?

We recommend starting with a fresh coco coir each grow cycle and can ship our blend directly to your door.

Warranty, Repairs, and Support

Something broke on my Grobo, what can I do to fix it?

There is nothing you can do except to message us and we’ll help you get it fixed for you. Grobo’s LEDs are supplied by a reputable brand that claims LED life of 100,000 hours. Depending on how you use the Grobo system this may vary significantly, however.

Connectivity

Does Grobo need a wifi connection?

Yes; a WiFi connection is necessary. Grobo works off of the standard 802.11 b/g/n WiFi bands, and the unit only can be accessed via the internet.

How much data will the Grobo unit use?

The Grobo sends small internet packets at the end of every day to update our servers so that you get the most optimized grow schedule for your plant as well as tracking how your plants are doing. These packets are fairly small and size and will be less than 1MB a day.

How bright is the Grobo?

The Grobo LED board can get pretty bright! It is advised not to look directly at the LEDs as long exposure can hurt your eyes. The unit does have material used to diffuse the light to produce a better overall hue, as well as protect your eyes from direct exposure to the lights.

We use LED lighting on the Photosynthetically Active Region (PAR) that plants require for the chemical process called Photosynthesis.
